Jarod Soto is a dedicated member of the SOS Richmond team, serving as a bilingual Engagement Team member, Shuttle Driver, and WashWorks Attendant. With nearly a year's tenure since June 2023, he has been instrumental in assisting the organization's outreach efforts, particularly in the Castro encampment, where his work in relocating individuals to designated housing was invaluable. Now he reaches out to encampments especially to offer his soft-spoken, accessible demeanor.
His hands-on roles with the Street and Laundry Teams showcase his commitment to service. Jarod's interactions with those he assists—managing laundry services, engaging face-to-face, and ensuring a personal touch—reflect his belief in the power of human connection. "If I can make someone's day and make them smile, that makes my day," he said. At SOS, Jarod found support, understanding, and respect during some of his most challenging times, strengthening his resolve to give back to the community. He often reminds newcomers to SOS that hardships are temporary and that maintaining hope is essential. Jarod is looking forward to Coaching Certification Training and Harm Reduction Mentoring to realize his potential for offering genuine care to his peers. |
