Who we areStewards for Change SOS is housed, unhoused, and formerly unhoused staff and allies – standing together to improve our neighborhoods. We represent show up at encampments, problematic hotspots, neighborhood events, neighborhood councils, community organizing initiatives, and neighborhood improvement projects with a focus on stewarding safety, stability and security in our neighborhoods. We are proud and true stewards for change. These urgent opportunities for neighborhood action can also be doors to personal change and transformation. We cannot change our community without addressing attitudes and behaviors in our own lives. |
What we doPeers helping peers Eighty-five percent of SOS’s staff are unhoused and formerly unhoused individuals. We strongly support the government’s Housing First approach and strive for our unhoused neighbors – including many of our staff – to be housed immediately. Meanwhile we partner with our housed and unhoused neighbors to meet them in the encampments that are largely ignored, and where the residents are mostly neglected. * SOS’s workforce model works alongside Housing First and provides jobs and resources to help folks sustain themselves. We believe the best way for an individual to keep their housing is to have the skills and ongoing experience of keeping a job to afford their own rent and bills – placing less burden on government budgets. |
