Volunteer Resource Specialist I – Job Readiness Program
​Commitment: 6 weeks, 3 hours per week (at least 2 in-person meetings required)
Requirements: Experienced in basic job skills development and career mentorship for individuals enrolled in the SOS Job Readiness Program.
Additional: Orientation and confidentiality agreement required
Overview:
The Job Readiness Program prepares individuals transitioning out of homelessness into stable employment. As a Volunteer Resource Specialist I, you will be part of a workforce team that mentors participants in professional skills, computer literacy, interview techniques, and workplace expectations—helping them gain confidence and readiness for the job market.
Responsibilities:
- Guide participants through resume building, interview prep, and job search activities.
- Provide practical insights into workplace professionalism and expectations.
- Offer constructive feedback on job applications and career development efforts.
- Focus solely on professional skill-building (personal coaching is provided by another workforce team member)
Ideal Candidate:
- Has expertise in hiring or professional mentorship.
- Is skilled in resume writing, Internet and non-Internet job search strategies, and interview preparation
- Can offer practical advice to persons with a multitude of barriers to active employment in competitive markets
- Can commit to meeting participants in person at least twice during the program.

Volunteer Resource Specialist II – The Warm Hand Wellness and Resource Center
​Commitment: 6 weeks, 3 hours per week (at least 2 in-person meetings required)
Requirements: Experience in mental health and/or social work preferred
Additional: Orientation and confidentiality agreement required
Overview:
As a Volunteer Resource Specialist with The Warm Hand Wellness and Resource Center, you will provide compassionate, professional support to individuals navigating the complicated effects of homelessness to no more than 3 participants This role is ideal for experienced social workers, mental health professionals, or those with a background in community support services.
Responsibilities:
- Help connect Warm Hand guests and SOS staff with essential services and resources.
- Assist in navigating mental health and social service systems.
- Work alongside SOS Richmond staff to create a welcoming, judgment-free space.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
Ideal Candidate:
- Has experience in mental health, social work, or a related field.
- Understands trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
- Practices non-judgement and partners with individuals respecting their right to make decisions in all aspects of their lives. 
- Can commit to meeting participants in person at least twice during the program.
- Works well in a team in a culturally diverse environment.
