SOS Richmond Care Crew Pilot Program
What is the SOS Richmond Care Crew? The Care Crew is a pilot program designed to bring together a group of volunteers who will commit to three months of meaningful action with SOS Richmond. Together, we’ll set a shared goal and work toward it—each in a way that feels right for you.

At SOS Richmond, we believe trusted community and warm support are the keys to big life changes. Every day, we help unhoused folks enter the workforce by hiring them to deliver peer support and services on the streets. By forging new paths, we’re building bridges that lead from tents to homes while addressing the trauma caused by harsh systems and policies.
Areas of Needed Support: Your Role & Goal. We’ll work with you to create a just-right role based on your strengths and interests. Opportunities include:

What happens during the monthly calls?
What if I can’t attend the calls? No problem! We’ll send recordings and recaps, and you can send us updates on your progress.
What’s the commitment? You’ll co-create a goal that aligns with your interests and capacity. Criteria include:
What happens after the three months? We’ll evaluate the program and get your feedback to shape future initiatives.
Is this family-friendly? Absolutely! Families, schools, or groups can create drives, fundraisers, or events with activities for kids.
Can young folks join? Anyone 18 or older can join individually. Younger volunteers can participate with a co-signed commitment and some parent/guardian involvement.

- Receive guidance from SOS staff and support from your fellow crew members,
- Connect with like-minded people who care deeply about making a difference,
- Be in a “care first” vibe –unconditional support for life’s ebbs and flows and impact on your commitments.
Your Commitment:
- Co-create a goal and timeline that suits your skills and energy—whether that’s hosting an awareness event, running a drive, volunteering regularly, or gathering donated items for our new HQ
- Begin your journey on March 1 and wrap up by June 1, 2025
- Join us for monthly calls (or catch the recordings/recaps!) to:
- Share learnings with the group.
- Celebrate progress,
- Get support for your goals,
- Hear from SOS peer outreach workers about real challenges and wins.

- Hosting an inspired, social event to raise awareness and funds. Think: a BBQ, birthday bash, or workplace lunch-and-learn. We provide a playbook, a short video, and even a Q&A guest if your group is large!
- Setting up a peer-to-peer fundraiser—like a birthday campaign, sponsored run, or mileage challenge,
- Pairing fundraising with a towel or blessing bag drive using our ready-made “kit,”
- Giving a presentation about SOS at your workplace or organization, potentially opening doors for donations or workplace giving,
- Regular volunteering on one of our programs.
Feeling ambitious? Add on these options:
- Volunteer regularly to help with resumes or 1:1 workforce development support,
- Dive into research projects (e.g., tracking the impacts of homeless sweeps),
- Monitor news and policies on homelessness and help shape our social media posts (experience required),
- Stretch your own giving to make an even greater impact,
- Help us network for candidates to fill key roles, like our next board treasurer,
- Partner with us to gather donations.
