Angelina "Angie" Pena has been a vital part of SOS since 2021, quickly transitioning from volunteer to staff. From her start on the trash crew to her current role with the Shower Power team, she has cultivated a keen sense of hospitality. Angie is always ready with the right words
to help welcome those seeking a hot shower, a nutritional meal, or new clothes. Angie also knows from firsthand experience the struggles people may be facing when they come to SOS. Whether fear and isolation or a worry that accepting help might undermine their hard-won sense of independence, she understands the journey: "People have been let down so much that they often don't want to accept help," she said. Yet, she also knows the power of positivity and resilience along the path to new opportunities. Now sharing an apartment home with a roommate, Angie advises others not to give up and to keep pushing. "Everyone has their own timing," she said. |
